LMS Act of Kindness Day FEB 24!
On Friday, Feb 24th, NO PLACE FOR HATE is having an ACT OF KINDNESS DAY! We are encouraging EVERYONE to perform acts of kindness throughout the day: opening doors, helping others with heavy backpacks, saying positive things, smiling, helipng someone if they need it...a day to be nice and do kind deeds for others!  We encourage everyone to put themselves in someone else's shoes and to do something nice for others! Let's make LMS EVEN BETTER today!!!!
TSHIRTS FOR SALE! DESIGN CONTEST WINNER!
We now have out NO PLACE FOR HATE TSHIRTS, with the winning design by Zacharias Graham, for sale. Shirts are only $10 each! Students may wear them on spirit days.  SHirts are white with purple and yellow ink. Come see Mrs. Ragland for a tshirt order form! We are taking orders through the end of January! 
AUDITION FOR HONK! JR
Vocal auditions will be Tuesday, Jan. 3rd. Students may get a CD from Mr. Nichols this week before the break for $1. It contains all of the songs from the musical, and students may choose a song to audition with.  Auditions will be after school, and forms will be available AFTER the break!

SURVIVING LUNCH competes at UIL One Act Play at Carthage HS
The cast of SURVIVING LUNCH will compete Saturday, Dec. 10 at Carthage HS. We will be competing against four other schools...shows begin at 2 pm and will go back to back. We will perform last. BREAK A LEG!!!!

CIRQUE: Michael Jackson Immortal Tour Show in Feb!
We are currently t aking deposits through the end of November for the Cirque du Soleil Show, the Michael Jackson Immortal Tour. Total cost is $86; this includes show ticket, meal at Spaghetti Warehouse, and Charter Bus to the Toyota Center in Houston. First deposit is $30; 2nd is $30 (due before school lets out in Dec) and $26 due in January. This show is AMAZING!!!! If you love the music of Michael Jacksn, mixed with the performers from Cirque...you need to come with us! Trip is open to ANYONE 6-8th grades, parents, and siblings. Actual show is Feb 12th (on a Saturday).

Cirque Du Soleil DRALION on Fri. Dec. 2!
Students of LMS Theatre, Choir, and Dance will be going to see DRALION on Friday, Dec. 2nd.  STudents got to pay this trip out in installments over 3 months...trip includes charter buses to and from Houston, the show, and supper at the Spaghetti Warehouse! Students will leave LMS at 12 noon and should return by 10:30 that evening.

Author Ben Mikaelson is coming to LMS!!!
 On Dec. 2nd, author Ben Mikaelson will be at LMS to discuss bullying and relate personal experiences with it, as well as how bullying is the center of the book, TOUCHING SPIRIT BEAR.  There will be three presentations for all grade levels.
He has won NUMEROUS awards for his writing, and thanks to the Lions Club, we will get to hear how he overcame bullying in his own personal life growing up in South America , and how he used these experiences to make his book more real. THANK YOU TO DIANA HINEMAN, LMS LIBRARY, FOR MAKING THIS HAPPEN!!!!

AMAZING GRACE! For Black History Month
The 8th Grade Advanced Theatre Classes will be performing the children's play, AMAZING GRACE, for local LISD elementary children. AMAZING GRACE is the story of a young African-American girl who won't take NO for an answer, nor does she let being a girl or being Black stop her from wanting to be Peter Pan.  This play will be performed in February at LMS. Be ready to take Grace's message to heart: it doesn't matter what your sex or color is: you can do and be whatever you want to be!

Texas RenFest Student Days
8th grade theatre art students will be going to the texas Renaissance Festival on Wed, Nov 2nd for Theatre Student Days. Many will be competing in monologue, duo, and small group scenes. Breal a leg! They leave school at 630 am and will return around 830 pm.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT AUDITIONED! I COULD HAVE CASTED EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU, BUT THIS IS A SMALL CAST SHOW.  IT IS ALSO OUR OAP ENTRY.  YOU WERE ALL VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS SUBJECT, WHICH MADE IT EVEN HARDER TO CHOOSE THE CAST.  PLEASE JOIN OUR EFFORTS WITH THE "NO PLACE FOR HATE" INITIATIVE THAT WE ARE DOING AT LMS.

PLAYS FOR THE 2011-2012 SCHOOL YEAR
SURVIVING LUNCH  suggested performance date: October 20-21. 7th and grade actors ONLY allowed to audition for this show.
Cast: 3m., 3w. Delia, a teenage girl from New York City, moves to a small town after her father (a teacher) is killed in a school shooting. In her new high school, Delia is immediately faced with putdowns from the snooty, rich girls and handsome jocks who rule the hallways. Feeling like an outcast, Delia struggles to overcome her grief and start a new life. When she notices a boy repeatedly being bullied, she is determined to try to help. In the process she discovers the healing power of friendship. Surviving Lunch has been presented to thousands of middle- and high-school students by the national SOURCE Theatre Company of Sarasota, Florida. The play has evoked extensive post-show discussions and evaluations and is highly praised by teachers, administrators and students.

CHRISTMAS REVIEW suggested dates: mid-Dec.
This will be open to 6th - 8th graders. Review consisting of 4 short plays.  This show will also be in conjunction with the choir holiday show, with donations going to a local food bank.

HONK! Jr. Suggested date: March before spring break.  Open to students 6th - 8th with MANY roles available!
HONK! JR. is a contemporary retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's The Ugly Duckling with a JOSEPH...DREAMCOAT-esque score that everyone will enjoy.

8th grade advanced theatre will perform AMAZING GRACE for Black History Month, along with an end-of-year show.

Performing Arts Club Meeting
 PAC is our group that supports our shows at LMS, as well as area theatre offerings.  We meet on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:50 a.m. in CHoir 2.  Welcome to PAC...anyone 6th - 8th can join!

Fall Audition Meet Mon Aug 29th
 We will have a meeting at the beginning of school to discuss auditions for the fall play and the holiday show. Audition packets will be given out.  Audition for 7th and 8th graders will consist of a cold reading and some improv situations.  Packet permission slips due Thursday, Sept. 1st.  We will have auditions Friday, Sept 2nd.  Listen to announcements at school, check the callboard by Mrs. Ragland's room (Choir 2) and check the Lufkin MsTheatre facebook page for more info!
